Mumbai

I arrived in Mumbai safely. I have been here 2 days now.

Mumbai is hot and chaotic.
It reminds me of NYC.
Although in NYC there are many different smells.
In Mumbai, the air is so thick. I only smell incense and the intoxicating scent of fresh coriander. It smells amazing. I want to cook.
In NY, you dodge dog piles. In Mumbai, you dodge manakchand (chewing tobacco) spit. It is dark burgundy. It is everywhere! You have to be careful someone does not miss and spit on you lol

Thanks for tuning in. More to follow from Mumbai!

DOHA

I flew over to Doha. The flight was great. Excellent food. Excellent service.
I sat next to an Afghani lady who told me that she loved Indian culture. She knew how to speak hindi and urdu.
She told me two other girls in the next row did as well. When she asked about what languagues I spoke, she frowned with my answer that I only knew Gujarati. I am a slacker ...
Anyways I made it Doha Qatar, where it is dark and raining. I am glad it is dark. I don't know if I would want to see it in the daytime being alone. I flew through Abu Dhabi in 1999, and we got off the plane and stepped into a desert covered with thick hot air. It was hard to breath. My eyes watered looking out into the landscape. It was me, my mom, and my sister, and we were so nervous being at that mushroom airport. This one is nice. I came straight to the lounge. Its beautiful and refreshing. Aarti's mom and dad live in Doha and she gave me their contact info if I have any problems. I thought that was sweet. I want to come back here with Aarti and see what Doha is all about. Anyways. I am going to go rest and enjoy the lounge. I will report back after my first day in Mumbai!

Technical Difficulties

Sorry guys for the problems with the comments section, I don't know html well enough to fix the problem. So I have switched to a simpler template, and hopefully can figure something out so that it represents Anita more. Let me know if you guys run into any problems.

Thanks!

Hi!

I am headed to India on Friday for the second time in my life. I went for the first time during high school in 1999, when I fell in love with this lush, colorful country. I did not realize it would take me ten years to return.
Come join me on my 'yatra' as I embark on one of the most challenging journeys of my life… volunteering in a foreign land.
I hope to share the highs, the lows, and everything in between. My goal is report in each day; however, there are no guarantees I will find internet everyday. Regardless, try to stop by this page and take a look at India through my eyes.

Purpose :
To volunteer and conduct due diligence for my sorority's national beneficiary, Pratham.
To volunteer with Nanubhai Education Foundation, bringing urban education to rural India.
To meet my grandparents for the second time. Record their life history. My inspiration spawns from http://www.storycorps.org/ . This is the largest oral history project of its kind. I want my family to be remembered for years to come, and also learn about my family history and family tree.
To go to Surat district and spoil my niece Tulsi, nephew Shiv, and nephew Veer, whom I have never met.
To laugh with my aunts, uncles, cousins, and all extended family.
To run into other NRIs who are there for wedding season, well the ones especially there for Jiggy & Rina's wedding of Fort Lauderdale.
To give a little extra, and give up a little bit more here in the states.
Oh there are so many more… I have been planning this since undergrad.. And now you never have to hear me say you'll see me in India in 2009. It's been all talk for one too many years.
